Vatican Christmas Shocker! Pope says child rape isn’t that bad, was normal back in his day!

Victims of clerical sex abuse have reacted furiously to Pope Benedict’s claim yesterday that paedophilia wasn’t considered an “absolute evil” as recently as the 1970s.

In his traditional Christmas address yesterday to cardinals and officials working in Rome, Pope Benedict XVI also claimed that child pornography was increasingly considered “normal” by society.

“In the 1970s, paedophilia was theorised as something fully in conformity with man and even with children,” the Pope said.

“It was maintained – even within the realm of Catholic theology – that there is no such thing as evil in itself or good in itself. There is only a ‘better than’ and a ‘worse than’. Nothing is good or bad in itself.”

The Pope said abuse revelations in 2010 reached “an unimaginable dimension” which brought “humiliation” on the Church.

Asking how abuse exploded within the Church, the Pontiff called on senior clerics “to repair as much as possible the injustices that occurred” and to help victims heal through a better presentation of the Christian message.

“We cannot remain silent about the context of these times in which these events have come to light,” he said, citing the growth of child pornography “that seems in some way to be considered more and more normal by society” he said.

But outraged Dublin victim Andrew Madden last night insisted that child abuse was not considered normal in the company he kept.

Mr Madden accused the Pope of not knowing that child pornography was the viewing of images of children being sexually abused, and should be named as such.

He said: “That is not normal. I don’t know what company the Pope has been keeping for the past 50 years.”

Pope Benedict also said sex tourism in the Third World was “threatening an entire generation”.

Angry abuse victims in America last night said that while some Church officials have blamed the liberalism of the 1960s for the Church’s sex abuse scandals and cover-up catastrophes, Pope Benedict had come up with a new theory of blaming the 1970s.

“Catholics should be embarrassed to hear their Pope talk again and again about abuse while doing little or nothing to stop it and to mischaracterise this heinous crisis,” said Barbara Blaine, the head of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests,

“It is fundamentally disturbing to watch a brilliant man so conveniently misdiagnose a horrific scandal,” she added.

“The Pope insists on talking about a vague ‘broader context’ he can’t control, while ignoring the clear ‘broader context’ he can influence – the long-standing and unhealthy culture of a rigid, secretive, all-male Church hierarchy fixated on self-preservation at all costs. This is the ‘context’ that matters.”

The latest controversy comes as the German magazine Der Spiegel continues to investigate the Pope’s role in allowing a known paedophile priest to work with children in the early 1980s.

Can a girl sexually abuse herself?

This is unbelievable: A 15-year-old Ohio girl currently faces juvenile child pornography charges for allegedly taking and distributing nude photos of herself.

After Licking Valley High School officials discovered the photos on the girl’s phone and tipped off police last Friday, she was arrested, held in jail over the weekend and charged with possession of criminal tools and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material, ABC reports. If convicted, she could spend several years in juvenile detention and be forced to register as a sex offender for the next 20 years of her life (although, since she is a first-time offender and a minor, the judge could decide against making her register).

What’s more, charges might still be filed against the students who received the photos, regardless of whether they received them unwillingly. State law holds that “anyone possessing material that shows a minor in a state of nudity is guilty of a fifth-degree felony,” according to the Newark Advocate. If convicted, they could face registration as a sex offender for 10 years.

Clearly, the states’ child porn laws were not written to address these types of situations — and they do not take into consideration the technology at kids’ disposal. There are now infinite ways for teenagers to virtually play-act their sexuality. Are minors guilty of sexually abusing themselves for engaging in this kind of exploration in all of the many (admittedly frightening) ways available to them? How can we consider minors both incapable of giving legally meaningful sexual consent and criminal should they make a sexual decision for themselves without an adult’s involvement?

That’s not to say that some punishment — whether it’s meted out by their parents, the school or the law — isn’t reasonable in this case. After all, the general reaction to a teenage boy sending out explicit photos of himself to female classmates would likely, and rightly, be that it was sexual harassment — why should it be any different if a girl is the sender? Also, distributing nude photos of yourself is potentially self-endangering behavior that should be addressed — obviously.

But calling this girl a sex offender for distributing pornographic images of herself is crazy-talk. We have to acknowledge that, however unprepared she was to make the decision, she does have ownership over her own body; her sexual choice is not the same as an adult making a sexual choice for her.

Let’s Talk Sex

Let us talk about sex in a way that you will not hear in most churches or some homes. Sex is not dirty when done in a way to give God glory and thanksgiving for a most precious gift. Most churches and ministers are not prepared to share with you straight sex talk and in the same breathe show you in the Bible where it is crossed referenced. We are not here to bash ministers because I am one, but we are going to cover sex from A to Z in the Bible and out of the Bible.

If you are a Christian, you have been expecting your minister to follow the instruction given by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 4th chapter. The Apostle Paul instructs those called to teach the body of Christ to “equip” the saints. Are you equipped with an informed understanding of sex in the church and out of it? Since we are tripartite being consisting of body, soul and spirit, it is most important for the body to know its full function in an era where most emphasis by Christian teachers relates to the spirit. It is time that you be equipped with more than a working knowledge of money, why not be exposed to what so many are looking for on the internet and in empty relationships – love.

Recently in a conversation with a minister over 50 it was disclosed that he was elated to know he would be able if his wife agreed to it, to enjoy sex even in his 60’s, 70’s and 80’s if they maintain their health. So many people seem to think that sex stops when you turn 55 or 60. For some unhealthy reason some who are avid Christians are under the impression that if they are not having sex to produce an offspring they should not have sex. Wow. Chronological age does not stop you, but rather your mental attitude.

Are you living a healthy life now, so when you come to the age of retirement you will be able to enjoy all aspects of life, including sex? Yes, Christians like anybody else should enjoy sex after they bear children. As we see from the Bible most people, including priest married and lived long healthy lives. The reason Jesus did not marry allowed him to be an unblemished sacrifice for the world. The lie that some religions tell that they are not marrying as priest is deception to make the world think they are holy because they are not married.

We will talk in more detail about what the Bible has to say about sexual relations, however, for now let’s say it is very healthy to have sexual relations when you are married, otherwise abstinence is the way to go.

Why do some married couples when they feel they have enough children decide that they should have an abortion instead of giving the child that God blessed them with up for adoption?

Abortion in America illustrates to the world how some Americans feel about the gift of life. It is interesting that Abortion and Abstinence both start with the letter “A”. Is there a link between the two words other than the actions taken by the individual? Abortion is the easy way out of the situation of unwanted pregnancy. Arjeana will discuss abortion in a future article.

Marriage and divorce statistics cause many to wonder if the institution that God created will survive – yes it will. The people who are making those accusations operate without knowledge God’s provision for humankind. For those who believe the Bible, God established marriage in the book of Genesis and it will remain one of God’s established institutions until Jesus returns for his bride. Premarital counseling needs to be stringent for couples before they marry that will provide better preparation for marriage. Too many people enter into marriage immature and unprepared for some of life’s basic challenges.
