Hustling Haggard: ‘Cured’ of the Gay, the Disgraced Preacher Sets up New Church!

BILL BERKOWITZ FOR BUZZFLASH

On the comeback trail, Ted Haggard incorporates a new Colorado Springs church. What the future holds for Haggard is anybody’s guess.

Similar to the way the Little Engine that Could huffed and puffed and was able to pull a long train over the mountain, disgraced preacher Ted Haggard has his little engine huffing and puffing these days. After accompanying his wife Gayle on a successful book tour earlier this year promoting her tell-some book Why I Stayed: My Choice to Love, Hope, and Forgive — (co-written with Angela Hunt) and setting up a prayer shop in their Colorado Springs, Colorado home, the Haggards’ have decided to continue their climb down from scandal mountain by starting up their own full-fledged church.

With Ted Haggard now “cured” of the gay and, by his own testimony, not having “had one compulsive thought or behavior” since he began therapy, Ted and Gayle Haggard recently took a bold step and “incorporated to become a church,” the Colorado Spring Gazette reported. “Becoming St. James Church brings with it a tax structure that helps ‘keep the accounting in order,’ said Ted; the couple has been giving paid talks at U.S. churches for the past 18 months.”

The church appears to be named after the passage “faith without works is dead” in the Book of James.

“I’m not surprised that Haggard is trying to return to the ministry,” longtime Religious Right watcher Rob Boston told BuzzFlash in an e-mail. “He’s really not qualified to do anything else.”

Boston, a Senior Policy Analyst for Americans United, pointed out that “the Religious Right loves redemption stories. I’ve heard of a lot of them over the years –- ‘I used to be a drug-dealing, neo-Nazi arsonist -– but then I found Jesus!’ –- but I think Haggard has fallen too far to claw his way back up to the top. I suspect he’ll remain a marginal figure with a following just big enough to keep him afloat financially but too small to make him a national name again.”

The Colorado Springs Gazette reported that Haggard hasn’t “ruled out the possibility that St. James will become in the future a bona fide church with a members roll and choir. ‘Sometime, somewhere we will do some type of ministry,’” he told the newspaper.

In 2006, at the height of his political power – he was closely connected to the Bush Administration — and religious influence, Haggard got caught up in one of the juiciest sex and drug scandals involving a religious leader in years. After a male prostitute maintained that Haggard had had sex with him on a fairly regular basis, and that he had also provided Haggard with illegal drugs (“I bought the meth but didn’t use it,” Haggard said), he was forced to resign as the pastor of the New Life Church and as president of the influential National Association of Evangelicals.

Upon reading the latest Haggard news, Rod Dreher, who blogs on “science, religion, markets, and morals” for Beliefnet, was flabbergasted. He wrote that he couldn’t “quite grasp … why clerics who have been spectacularly ruined as he was don’t just go sell life insurance, or something.” Dreher pointed out that he “think[s] religious leadership, like political leadership, must have particular appeal to narcissists.”

Think of the Catholic bishops whose moral authority was ruined by the scandal, and who couldn’t imagine offering their resignation, or not being bishop (e.g., Bernard Cardinal Law, who hung on till the bitter end, and for whom the idea of quietly leaving the scene and going off to do quiet penance somewhere seems as alien as snake-handling).

I’m not saying Haggard has nothing to offer the church in terms of service; I am saying that whenever I see a religious leader who has gone through a crisis like Haggard’s starting a new church, returning to the pulpit after a relatively short interruption, or in some way continuing to offer himself as a religious leader, I don’t think “hooray for second chances,” I think, “there goes a narcissist.” And it’s not because I don’t believe in second chances, either.

Steve Rabey recently noted that Lee Grady, a longtime editor of Charisma magazine, said that “the miraculous and transforming power of the Holy Spirit he and other charismatic/Pentecostal have experienced is under assault by the ‘epidemic of moral failure among our leaders.’”

“We can have the gifts of the Holy Spirit in operation without this circus sideshow going on,” Grady said in an interview. “I’m waving my hands in the air because this is a huge problem, and we are going to experience even more serious problems in our churches if we don’t know how to apply godly discipline to our wayward leaders.” According to Rabey, that’s the message that Grady is teaching in his new book titled The Holy Spirit is Not for Sale.

Rabey pointed out that Grady’s book “explores the fall of leaders like Bishop Earl Paulk of Atlanta’s Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, who confessed to decades of sexual misconduct before his death last year; divorced evangelists Randy and Paula White, whose lavish lifestyle at Tampa’s Without Walls International Church piqued the interest of congressional investigators; abuse charges leveled against Bishop Thomas Wesley Weeks III and his ex-wife Juanita Bynum, and the affair that toppled evangelist Todd Bentley’s Lakeland Revival in Florida.”

Grady appears to be particularly critical of those preachers who got involved in scandals and then quickly try to re-emerge as religious leaders. “Instead of giving into our celebrity culture and allowing fallen leaders to reappear in a new pulpit the next week, we need to preserve a sense of purity with standards of righteousness and systems of accountability,” he said.

Haggard and the New Apostolic Reformation

One other interesting observation about Haggard’s re-emergence comes from Rachel Tabachnick, an independent researcher who specializes in End Times narratives: “What is interesting about Haggard’s comeback is that he has flaunted the apostolic structure and leaders who helped in his original success,” Tabachnick said in an e-mail. In his book Life Giving Church Haggard wrote about how his world took “a new shape” in 1992 “when he was summoned to a meeting with Luis Bush, Dick Eastman, and Peter and Doris Wagner.  Out of this meeting came Haggard’s partnership in the foundations that would become the New Apostolic Reformation. (For more on NAR see http://www.zcommunications.org/the-new-apostolic-reformation-by-bill-berkowitz.)

“Part of the structure [that was developed] was the accountability system that [eventually] took control over Haggard’s future after his scandal,” Tabachnick said. “However, Haggard did not cooperate with his apostolic overseers.”

In November 2009, Charisma magazine reported that “C. Peter Wagner, who co-founded the World Prayer Center with Haggard, told the Gazette that Haggard should receive approval from apostolic overseers before leading people in prayer and worship. ‘My reservation is that he has not followed through completely on apostolic protocol,’ Wagner told the Gazette.”

In the same Charisma article Jack Hayford, who had been part of Haggard’s team of apostolic overseers commented that it was unfortunate that Haggard was going his own way.  Charisma magazine reported that Haggard had a new accountability team but would not reveal who they are.

Tabachnick noted that “since Haggard has not followed the guidelines of ‘apostolic protocol’ as Wagner has stated, I would assume that his ministry will not be embraced by many of his former colleagues in the New Apostolic Reformation.”

The Haggard scandal, “as unpleasant as it was for him and his family, could have been an opportunity for him to engage in introspection, self-discovery and growth,” Rob Boston added. “For that to happen, he would have to break free of the bonds of right-wing fundamentalism that have bound him for so many years. It looks like he’s determined not to do that. It’s a shame.”

Where she was saved

Where she was saved

The church where Sarah Palin grew up and was baptized preaches some of the most extreme religious views in the nation.

By Sarah Posner

Sep. 11, 2008 | In June, Sarah Palin took the stage at the Wasilla Assembly of God, a deeply conservative Pentecostal church. The excitable Alaskan governor told a graduating class of missionary students that it “was so cool growing up in this church, getting saved here, getting baptized.” She went on to declare that her son Track will deploy to Iraq, and urged students to pray “that our leaders, that our national leaders, are sending [soldiers] out on a task that is from God.” She added: “That’s what we have to make sure that we are praying for — that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.”

One big question about Palin is how that deterministic view of God’s will in world affairs influences her decision-making on issues ranging from the Middle East to the environment, sexuality to education. What is not in doubt is that her addition to the Republican ticket has fired up the religious right and the party’s most conservative base.

The McCain campaign has downplayed Palin’s Pentecostal roots. But as her testimony at the Wasilla Assembly of God demonstrates, she is motivated by the idea that godly forces are locked in spiritual warfare with satanic forces. For many with a Pentecostal upbringing like Palin’s, fighting that battle is part of God’s plan for the end of days, when war will end the world as we know it, Jesus will come back, and non-Christians will convert or perish.

Pentecostals are so named for the feast, or Pentecost, documented in the Book of Acts, during which early followers of Jesus were said to have been “filled with the Holy Spirit” and able to “speak in other tongues.” Although they share religious doctrine with other evangelicals, Pentecostals’ religious experiences include such “spirit-filled” expressions as speaking in tongues, receiving divine prophecy and revelation, casting out demons and witnessing miracles. While not all Pentecostals are conservative (Leah Daughtry, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Convention, is a Pentecostal minister), most of them, according to a 2006 study by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, are more conservative than other Christians on social, moral and spiritual issues, and far more likely to believe in the rapture and end-times.

Palin was raised as a Roman Catholic before being saved and baptized at Wasilla Assembly of God. In 2002, the year she first ran for statewide office, unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor, she left her childhood church and joined the Wasilla Bible Church, a nondenominational evangelical church that “believe[s] in the Bible as the only inspired inerrant Word of God authoritative for faith and practice,” according to its statement of faith. In contrast to Assemblies of God, the Wasilla Bible Church’s statement of faith contains no reference to such Pentecostal requirements as speaking in tongues, divine healing or belief in the rapture. When she’s in the state capital, Palin attends the Juneau Christian Center, an Assemblies of God church, although it doesn’t advertise that in its name.

“All of us in the business know that ‘Christian Center’ is an Assemblies of God church trying to rebrand itself to people who are not necessarily Pentecostal,” says Anthea Butler, a religion professor at the University of Rochester and an expert on Pentecostalism. “You don’t put Assemblies of God on the door because people think, ‘Oh, those are the holy rollers.’”

Based on her public statements, Palin’s views appear to be in line with the Assemblies of God official positions on abortion, creationism and homosexuality. The denomination “views the practice of abortion as an evil that has been inflicted upon millions of innocent babies and that will threaten millions more in the years to come.” The only possible exception is if the mother is at “likely” risk of death; “however, vague threats to the mother’s physical or emotional health must not become an excuse to place the child at risk.” With regard to creation, the Assemblies of God’s official position is that “even though the Bible is not primarily a book of science, it is as trustworthy in the area of science as when it speaks to any other subject” and its “account of creation is intended to be taken as factual and historical.” Homosexuality is a sin because “it is disobedient to Scriptural teachings,” “contrary to God’s created order for the family and human relationships,” and “comes under divine judgment.”

The National Association of Evangelicals, of which the Assemblies of God is a member, has attempted to broaden its horizons beyond the culture wars to address global warming. But the only official statement on the environment from the staunchly conservative Assemblies of God comes from its Commission on Doctrinal Purity and the Executive Presbytery: “Today in our American culture, many people have turned their adoration from the Creator to the creation. They have gone to the extreme and are now worshiping the earth. We believe worship of the land, the sea, the oceans, and other attributes of the earth is an abomination to God the Creator.”

Belief in the rapture and end-times is part of the official position of the Assemblies of God. That puts the church in tune with the 90 percent of Pentecostals who believe in the rapture, compared to 59 percent of other Christians. (During the rapture, believers will be whisked off to heaven to sit out the bloody tribulation period and final battle before Jesus returns.) John Hagee, the white evangelical pastor of a Texas mega-church, who endorsed John McCain, believes that war against Iran is a necessary fulfillment of biblical prophecy of how the end-times scenario will unfold. (McCain later rejected Hagee’s endorsement over Hagee’s controversial statements that the Holocaust was God’s will.)

Assemblies of God members represent a tiny fraction of evangelicals. Of the 26 percent of white Americans who identify as evangelical, 4 percent belong to Pentecostal denominations, and 1 percent belong to the Assemblies of God, according to the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life’s Religious Landscape Survey. As of 2006, according to the denomination’s own statistics, there were more than 12,000 Assemblies of God churches in the United States; 91 of them were in Alaska. More than 2.8 million Americans, like Palin, identify with an Assemblies of God church, according to the denomination’s statistics, even if they were not official members.

Many more evangelicals belong to neo-Pentecostal, nondenominational churches. In the conservative ones, the rhetoric of spiritual warfare, particularly in the context of political issues, is common. When McCain rejected the endorsement of televangelist Rod Parsley because of Parsley’s statements that “Islam is a false religion that must be destroyed,” he was rejecting Parsley’s version of spiritual warfare, in which the divine force of the United States of America will vanquish the enemy of red-blooded American Christianity.

Yet Pentecostals celebrate that spiritual battle. And the religious right is rapturous about having Palin on their side. “The McCain camp may want to play her as the reformer maverick, but it’s her Christian warrior spirit that has really brought McCain and his team the jolt they’ve needed,” the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody wrote this week on his blog.

Religion professor Butler says that warrior spirit — or Palin’s “Pentecostal-ness” — is the reason why her candidacy excites the conservative base more than a non-Pentecostal would. Watching Palin’s speech to the Republican National Convention, Butler says she thought to herself, “This is a flat-footed, I’m-in-the-back-of-the-camp-meeting-truck-preaching-woman” in the style of the trailblazing early 20th century evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson.

At the end of her speech to the Wasilla Assembly of God youth missionaries, Palin prayed for a spiritual revival in the state of Alaska. “I’m just praying for an outpouring of God’s spirit, for a revival to be here in Alaska,” she declared. After the pastors prayed over the governor, and described Alaska as a “refuge state in the last days,” Palin explained that when she attends other churches, the pastors apologize in advance for parishioners who might raise their hands or clap, in the spirit of Pentecostal worship. “And I say,” said Palin, bursting with pride and laughter, “I grew up in Wasilla Assembly of God. Nothing freaks me out!”

With friends like these …

Supporters of Dr. James Dobson of “Focus on the Family” had asked Dobson’s supporters to pray for a huge storm to hit Denver. The storm was to hit on the occasion of Sen. Barack Obama’s acceptance of the Democratic nominee for president before 80,000 delegates at the open-air Pepsi Center.

Dobson, who was not supporting McCain, now says he may throw his support to him because he selected a “pro-life” running mate.

With his forced cancellation or drastically reduced Republican Convention because of the expected “worse-than-Katrina” hurricane, McCain might want to try and get Dobson to throw his support behind Obama. Dobson’s track record for getting God to do what he wants doesn’t seem all that good.

Judgment against False Prophets!

Ezekiel 13

Judgment against False Prophets
13:1 Then this message came to me from the LORD: 2 “Son of man, speak against the false prophets of Israel who are inventing their own prophecies. Tell them to listen to the word of the LORD. 3 This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Destruction is certain for the false prophets who are following their own imaginations and have seen nothing at all! 4 “O people of Israel, these prophets of yours are like jackals digging around in the ruins. 5 They have done nothing to strengthen the breaks in the walls around the nation. They have not helped it to stand firm in battle on the day of the LORD. 6 Instead, they have lied and said, ‘My message is from the LORD,’ even though the LORD never sent them. And yet they expect him to fulfill their prophecies! 7 Can your visions be anything but false if you claim, ‘This message is from the LORD,’ when I have not even spoken to you? 8 “Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because what you say is false and your visions are a lie, I will stand against you, says the Sovereign LORD. 9 I will raise my fist against all the lying prophets, and they will be banished from the community of Israel. I will blot their names from Israel’s record books, and they will never again see their own land. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD! 10 “These evil prophets deceive my people by saying, ‘All is peaceful!’ when there is no peace at all! It’s as if the people have built a flimsy wall, and these prophets are trying to hold it together by covering it with whitewash! 11 Tell these whitewashers that their wall will soon fall down. A heavy rainstorm will undermine it; great hailstones and mighty winds will knock it down. 12 And when the wall falls, the people will cry out, ‘Where is the whitewash you applied?’ 13 “Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will sweep away your whitewashed wall with a storm of indignation, with a great flood of anger, and with hailstones of fury. 14 I will break down your wall right to the foundation, and when it falls, it will crush you. Then you will know that I am the LORD! 15 At last my anger against the wall and those who covered it with whitewash will be satisfied. Then I will say to you: ‘The wall and those who whitewashed it are both gone. 16 They were lying prophets who claimed peace would come to Jerusalem when there was no peace. I, the Sovereign LORD, have spoken!’ Judgment against False Women Prophets 17 “Now, son of man, also speak out against the women who prophesy from their own imaginations. 18 This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Destruction is certain for you women who are ensnaring the souls of my people, both young and old alike. You tie magic charms on their wrists and furnish them with magic veils. Do you think you can trap others without bringing destruction on yourselves? 19 You turn my people away from me for a few handfuls of barley or a piece of bread. By lying to my people who love to listen to lies, you kill those who should not die, and you promise life to those who should not live. 20 “And so the Sovereign LORD says: I am against all your magic charms, which you use to ensnare my people like birds. I will tear them from your arms, setting my people free like birds set free from a cage. 21 I will tear off the magic veils and save my people from your grasp. They will no longer be your victims. Then you will know that I am the LORD. 22 You have discouraged the righteous with your lies, when I didn’t want them to suffer grief. And you have encouraged the wicked by promising them life, even though they continue in their sins. 23 But you will no longer talk of seeing visions that you never saw, nor will you practice your magic. For I will rescue my people from your grasp. Then you will know that I am the LORD.” NLT

What does Rev. Ike, Daddy Grace, Father Divine ….

What does Rev. Ike, Daddy Grace, Father Divine, Prophet Jones and the Bishop from Oakland who said he walked on water in the sixties, have in common with the current Televangelist?

Just a question for you to ponder and pray about.

We are praying for our brothers and sisters at this time who have been targeted by Grassley and others, and the various falls from grace that have happened this year. Let us also pray for the brothers and sisters who follow these ministries, that they not turn away from the Lord because of what is said in the press.

Sen. Charles Grassley Asks Ministries To Turn Over Financial Records Within One Month
CBS News Interactive: Eye on Religion
(CBS) WASHINGTON CBS News has learned Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, is investigating six prominent televangelist ministries for possible financial misconduct. Letters were sent Monday to the ministries demanding that financial statements and records be turned over to the committee by December 6th. According to Grassley’s office, the Iowa Republican is trying to determine whether or not these ministries are improperly using their tax-exempt status as churches to shield lavish lifestyles. The six ministries identified as being under investigation by the committee are led by: Paula White, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, Eddie Long, Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn. Three of the six – Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland and Creflo Dollar – also sit on the Board of Regents for the Oral Roberts University. A spokesperson for Joyce Meyer Ministries provided CBS News with an IRS letter to the ministry dated October 10, 2007, that stated: “We determined that you continue to qualify as an organization exempt from Federal income tax.” The letter could not be independently verified in time for this story. The ministry also pointed to audited financial statements for the last three years that are posted on the organization’s Web site. In a statement, Benny Hinn’s spokesperson, Ronn Torossian, said the ministry was in the process of determining the best course of action in response to the Senate investigation. “World Healing Center Church complies with the laws that govern church and non-profit organizations and will continue to do so,” Torossian wrote. In a statement to CBS News, Creflo Dollar called his ministry an “open book” and said he would comply with any “valid request” from Grassley. But he noted that the inquiry raised questions that could “affect the privacy of every community church in America.” The other three ministries did not respond to requests for comment from CBS News on Monday. Because they have tax status as churches, the ministries do not have to file IRS 990 forms like other non-profit organizations – leaving much financial information largely behind closed doors. The letters sent Monday were the culmination of a long investigation fueled in part by complaints from Ole Anthony, a crusader against religious fraud who operates the Dallas-based Trinity Foundation, which describes itself as a watchdog monitoring religious media, fraud and abuse. “We’ve been working with them for two years,” Anthony told CBS News. “We have furnished them with enough information to fill a small Volkswagen.” Anthony said after twenty years of working with media organizations to expose televangelists, he saw little reform. He says that’s why he turned to another tactic, going straight to Grassley. He is confident that Grassley’s inquiry will be different, “What we hope is that this will lead to reform in religious nonprofits.” The structure of many televangelist organizations – in which the leadership is often concentrated in one person or one family – has itself been the target of criticism. “Churches like these are ruled as a dictatorship,” says Rod Pitzer, who directs research at Ministry Watch in North Carolina, which provides advice for donors to Christian organizations. Pitzer welcomes the Senate committee investigation. Ministries lacking accountability, he says, “give a black eye to churches and Christians who are trying to do things in the right manner.”

Where are the true prophetess (women) of God?

Prophets rebuked for prophesying from the flesh
[Ezekiel 13:17 (KJV) Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them.]
The prophet Ezekiel is instructed by the Lord to speak against women prophets who prophesy out of their flesh and cause people to be trapped like birds. These prophetesses today are called psychics and God’s people have no business going to a psychic for instruction or any information. Psychics are usually found in the world where they nickel and dime people for every word they give. The gift of a psychic is not like that of a prophetess who gets direction from the Holy Spirit.
The first scripture used in this writing is a rebuke or warning scripture.
Prophetesses who are grounded in the Word of God will receive a word of rebuke with love and understanding even if it does not apply to them; they will have an attitude of love and obedience to being a true servant of God.

Principal established that sons and daughters would prophesy (See Romans 11:29)
[Joel 2:28-29 (KJV) (See Acts 2:16 – 18) And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: [29] And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.]
· Prophesy is not something new for God’s kingdom; the first named prophet in the Bible was Enoch and the last mentioned was John the Revelator. Those names were mentioned in the Holy Bible; God had Joel to prophesy that your sons and daughters would prophesy, which means that many other people not named in the Bible would use the gift given by God to speak a word when appropriate.
· It is significant that God had Joel to prophesy the statement and Luke the Beloved Physician when he wrote the book of Acts to repeat it. Repetition was necessary so no one could say God has stop using prophets (sons) and prophetess (daughters) today.
· If the truth be told as it should; we need the prophets and prophetess more than ever because of the times we live in that are filled with evil, jealousy, envy, strife, hate for things that are good, and all the rest of the wrath from Satan because he will never be loved by God again.
· God made several promises by the prophet Joel and God is not a man that will lie. God is a true God.
· The pouring out of the spirit on all flesh is available for those who will receive it.
· Gifts and callings are without repentance and those who have the gift of prophesy have a choice to use their gift for God or Satan. One thing God will not do is violate our will. Human kind has to have a will to use the gift for God.
· Have you reviewed a dream by an older man recently?
· Have you reviewed a vision by a young man recently?
· This that God has is not just for prophets and prophetess, but it is for all (servants and handmaids).
· As the prophet Isaiah said, “If you be willing and obedient you will eat the good of the land,” the good of the land today is to receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of other tongues. That is the gift that God has for those who will receive.

Miriam
[Exodus 15:20 (KJV) And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.]
· The first female prophetess mentioned in the Bible.
· Here we find the sister of the great prophet and emancipator – Moses.

Deborah
[Judges 4:4 (KJV) And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time.]
· Deborah was a prophetess and judge with such an awesome responsibility and all the women who were named after Deborah the prophetess by there parents.

Huldah
[2 Kings 22:14 (KJV) So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college ;) and they communed with her.]
· It is so precious to see how the scriptures describe Huldah a prophetess and person of esteem who was only one of two people not of the house of David to be buried in Jerusalem at that time.

Noadiah
[Nehemiah 6:14 (KJV) My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.]
· It is unfortunate that someone has to be seen in a negative light, but Noadiah the prophetesses consorted with the dark side to speak against Nehemiah. A true prophet of God would not seek a word contrary to what God gave an individual.

Isaiah’s wife
[Isaiah 8:3 (KJV) And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said the Lord to me, Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz.]
· Isaiah’s wife was not only a prophetess but also a mother which meant that more prophets and prophetess would be born to the glory of God.

Elisabeth
[Luke 1:41-45 (KJV) And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: [42] And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. [43] And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? [44] For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. [45] And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.]
· A daughter of Aaron born with the gift and demonstrated the gift when she said “Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.” This phrase is said every day by individuals who think Mary was always a virgin; she was not.
· Elisabeth was the first prophetess filled with Holy Spirit; filled with the Holy Spirit is a prerequisite for complete use of the gift and office of prophecy. There are prophets and prophetess, who are not filled with the Holy Spirit that prophesy, however, they are not working at their optimum. Remember, gifts and callings are without repentance; the choice to receive Christ in our life and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit is our choice – God leaves it to us to accept or reject His precious gift.

Anna
[Luke 2:36-38 (KJV) And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; [37] And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. [38] And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.]
She was of the tribe of Aser one of the twelve tribes of Israel.
Here we find a woman of God faithful to her dead husband by not remarrying and extremely faithful to God by staying in the temple night and day.
She fasted and prayed before Jesus said some things come out only by fasting and praying.
She spoke of the coming Messiah.

Daughters of Phillip
[Acts 21:9 (KJV) And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.]
Depending on the version of the Holy Bible you review; one version (NASB-U) out of many used the term prophetess instead of prophesy.
These young women were born with the “gift” and they were probably learning how to use their “gift” to the glory of God.
These young women was a direct fulfillment of the prophesy in the book of Joel and Acts.

Jezebel
[Rev. 2:20 (KJV) Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.]
The prophet John goes right to the point by exposing Jezebel; she had the “gift” like the other prophetess above; the problem is that she used it perversely.
The church then and now refused to confront Jezebel, Jesus doctrine in Matthew 18:15-17 gives the process by which to confront and deal with these kinds of situations.
The church leaders at Thyatira ignored “that woman Jezebel,” but God did not. God said he gave her time to repent, but she refused. Has anyone ever met a person with the Jezebel spirit who has repented in the twenty-first century?
The Jezebel spirit can possess a man or women; another name for the Jezebel spirit in men is Ahab; the name Ahab comes, from the first man in the bible named Ahab possessed by this spirit.
Notice the Apostle John says that Jezebel calls herself a prophetess, when other people see and recognize the gift in you, you do not have to call yourself any name. Proverbs says that your gift will make room for you.
The sin that Jezebel practices is the sin that the Elders in Jerusalem told the Gentile converts to avoid; the Gentiles were instructed in Acts 15:20 (KJV) But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
One of the main instruments of Satan is the use of the spirit of seduction; notice Jezebel uses seduction as a tool to get people to commit fornication.
The other sin of Jezebel is to get people to eat things sacrificed to idols.
Have you ever met anyone possessed by the Jezebel spirit who repented and turned from his or her evil way?

General Comments about Prophetess and Prophets
The question must be raised, “Where are the true prophetesses of God,” which actually begs another question that must be answered first. That question is why do only some of the Christian churches in America accept and allow prophetess and prophets to move freely among the congregation. Prophetess and prophets should be in every Christian church in America. Jesus at the time he went back to heaven made a very direct gift’s to the church. Those gifts are enumerated in Ephesians 4:11 (KJV) “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers.” You would think that if Jesus went to the trouble of identifying the five-fold ministry that church leaders would be doing all they could to receive an apostle, a prophet (prophetess), an evangelist, a pastor and a teacher into the local ministry.

When proper relationship and accountability is established, a prophetess and/or a prophet could be one of the best friends of a local pastor and the ministry team. Pastors and other local church leaders are not in the perfect will of God when they fail to use all the team members given them by the Holy Spirit. Church leadership should use all the team members of the five-fold ministry. Some indication suggests churches without the five-fold ministry are lacking funds to pay for all ministers of the five fold and another leading reason is that the Pastor only model does not want to share authority and responsibility.

Are there really, that many insecure and not anointed leaders in the Christian church? It seems that there is a fear of the full five-fold ministry and specific to this article there seems to be a direct fear of prophetess and prophets. Could it be that the gift these individuals possess frightens church leaders because they are afraid that they may be exposed. Whatever the real reason we do not see the prophetess and prophets operating in American churches, those reasons must cease; in order for Prophet Joel’s words to come alive and the full flow that God ordained may be experienced by all.

The spirit of boldness will come on those prophetess and prophets who are not allowed to freely flow in the anointing in there local assembly to minister. This spirit of boldness will allow the prophetess and prophets to minister to people who are willing to receive a word from the Lord in the church or out of it. We are living in the last of the last days before Christ returns the first time to catch the bride away and there are many souls not going to traditional churches, God has a word for many of those people not in the traditional church. Understand that the spirit of boldness is going to manifest itself in an incredible way and no system or no man/woman will stop the end-time work from coming forth out-of-the mouths of God’s ordained and chosen.

Whether in the traditional or non-traditional setting prophetess and prophets need to be free to use the gift given by the Holy Spirit so that they may work out their salvation with fear and trembling. The beauty of the gift from God for a full prophetess or full prophet is that they are able to see the past, present, and the future. When a prophetess or prophet is a seer, they are at the highest level of the office that man or woman may obtain. There are seers (male and female), prophetesses, and prophets in the land now and they are available to minister, as doors are open by the Holy Spirit. Those in leadership who will teach the body of Christ about the office and gift of prophecy are doing a great service to the Church so that saints will have knowledge and know how to receive a seer, prophetess, or prophet.

A true prophetess or prophet of God will never prophesy a word that is contrary to God’s Holy Bible. The Apostle Paul gives the process by which prophecy is delivered in 1 Corinthians 14:29-33 (NIV), it says, “Two or three prophets should speak, and the others should weigh carefully what is said. 30 And if a revelation comes to someone who is sitting down, the first speaker should stop. 31 For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.32 The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. 33 For God is not a God of disorder but of peace. As in all the congregations of the saints.” There is no confusion in the heavenly kingdom; the kingdom of God is the primary kingdom that we must operate in on this earth, even when it is different from the kingdom of man. We must learn to trust God and believe in and operate in His kingdom. We are citizens of heaven and are temporarily here on this earth; earth is not our home.

There are only two kinds of prophetess and prophets either good = obeying the spirit of God or false = obeying the spirit of Satan. There is no in between. Prophetess and prophets walk in the light or in darkness; Isaiah says it best in Isaiah 8:19-20 (KJV) “And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? [20] To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” The point of emphasis is, if a prophetess or prophet has behavior like Balaam he or she is an instrument of Satan. However, if you are not convinced that the last statement is accurate, then you should proceed at your own caution.

Seers, prophetess, and prophets are encouraged to be careful not to give a word from their own spirit or flesh because people who get a word are expecting that word to be directly from the Lord.

The primary encouragement of this article is that the church world incorporates the use of seers, prophetess, and prophets in all aspects of ministry when possible. One irrefutable claim is that Jesus said that when He was sent back to catch the bride away He would be coming back for a complete church; so how can the church be complete if only “Pastors” are the whole ministry team?

Let’s Talk Sex

Let us talk about sex in a way that you will not hear in most churches or some homes. Sex is not dirty when done in a way to give God glory and thanksgiving for a most precious gift. Most churches and ministers are not prepared to share with you straight sex talk and in the same breathe show you in the Bible where it is crossed referenced. We are not here to bash ministers because I am one, but we are going to cover sex from A to Z in the Bible and out of the Bible.

If you are a Christian, you have been expecting your minister to follow the instruction given by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 4th chapter. The Apostle Paul instructs those called to teach the body of Christ to “equip” the saints. Are you equipped with an informed understanding of sex in the church and out of it? Since we are tripartite being consisting of body, soul and spirit, it is most important for the body to know its full function in an era where most emphasis by Christian teachers relates to the spirit. It is time that you be equipped with more than a working knowledge of money, why not be exposed to what so many are looking for on the internet and in empty relationships – love.

Recently in a conversation with a minister over 50 it was disclosed that he was elated to know he would be able if his wife agreed to it, to enjoy sex even in his 60’s, 70’s and 80’s if they maintain their health. So many people seem to think that sex stops when you turn 55 or 60. For some unhealthy reason some who are avid Christians are under the impression that if they are not having sex to produce an offspring they should not have sex. Wow. Chronological age does not stop you, but rather your mental attitude.

Are you living a healthy life now, so when you come to the age of retirement you will be able to enjoy all aspects of life, including sex? Yes, Christians like anybody else should enjoy sex after they bear children. As we see from the Bible most people, including priest married and lived long healthy lives. The reason Jesus did not marry allowed him to be an unblemished sacrifice for the world. The lie that some religions tell that they are not marrying as priest is deception to make the world think they are holy because they are not married.

We will talk in more detail about what the Bible has to say about sexual relations, however, for now let’s say it is very healthy to have sexual relations when you are married, otherwise abstinence is the way to go.

Why do some married couples when they feel they have enough children decide that they should have an abortion instead of giving the child that God blessed them with up for adoption?

Abortion in America illustrates to the world how some Americans feel about the gift of life. It is interesting that Abortion and Abstinence both start with the letter “A”. Is there a link between the two words other than the actions taken by the individual? Abortion is the easy way out of the situation of unwanted pregnancy. Arjeana will discuss abortion in a future article.

Marriage and divorce statistics cause many to wonder if the institution that God created will survive – yes it will. The people who are making those accusations operate without knowledge God’s provision for humankind. For those who believe the Bible, God established marriage in the book of Genesis and it will remain one of God’s established institutions until Jesus returns for his bride. Premarital counseling needs to be stringent for couples before they marry that will provide better preparation for marriage. Too many people enter into marriage immature and unprepared for some of life’s basic challenges.
